Pictures from the private view night in December 2010...this show was kind of problematic. the work next to it was coloured fruits which was moved there last minute. also to the left of it had a coffin shape taped to the ground, and next to this was a noose. i didnt like how other pieces were influencing my piece. its a learning curve. this had made me confront the idea of rice as food as ive tried hard to ignore this fact and look at it as a material opposing paint..the fruit next to it has kind of exposed this relationship and now i have to think about food in art history and other cultural signifiers. **the work developed more into black and white photos, with larger A2 panels of rice, i made it so that it had more of a prescene in that big of a space such as the triangle space. the tones of the piece of black/white was also more suited to the photos.
im looking at narrative through site specific pieces, but after making this piece, i thought film would be better suited to explore ideas of journey, movement, diaspora and transcience.
